New York Times Online Article Makes False Claim About Haresh Singh’s Death In Guyana.

The New York Times falsely claimed that 17-year-old, Haresh Singh was murdered in Guyana by protesters.

The article “Killings Reignite Racial Tensions in Guyana” written by Nafeeza Yahya-Sakur, Cotton Tree, Guyana, and Anotoly Kurmanaev, Mexico City. The online article reported that Haresh Singh was ambushed by protesters, beaten to death, and motorbike set on fire.  

Facts

This reporting is contrary to many news media outlet in Guyana.

Singh was last seen leaving his home for the farm in the #3 Village, West Coast Berbice. The Guyana Police Force confirms that Singh was killed during the early morning hours on September 9, 2020.

Haresh Singh’s family was alarmed by fire coming from the backdam and decided to inquire. Singh’s body was discovered bleeding from the nose. He was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
