“No Talks with APNU+AFC Leader Until I Am Recognized As The Legitimate President”…Dr. Ali
According to an unconfirmed report, Guyana’s President, Dr. Irfaan Ali indicated that he would not have any political engagement with the Opposition leader, Mr. Joseph Harmon. Dr. Irfaan Ali insists that the leader of the A Partnership for National Unity+Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) should recognize him as the Head of State and Government publicly.
“Mr. Harmon must be honest enough to correct the wrongs he has done in that narrative and go out to the public and say the PPP (People’s Progressive Party) has been legitimately elected and it is the recognized government of Guyana and then we talk,” Ali said.
After a few months of the court battle over the election in and outside the country, the PPP/C leader was sworn in as Guyana’s President. An election petition is before the courts by the opposition outlining that the election was fraudulent. He considers the opposition actions as a double standard. For this reason, he is not going to engage the opposition on issues relating to his government until he is recognized as the legitimate president.
“You can’t come to me to tell me you don’t recognize me. You can’t bring anything beneficial to me because you don’t recognize me,” Dr. Irfaan Ali said.
