New York-based Guyanese Dumped New-Born Baby Out Of Window With Umbilical Cord Attached

A New York Guyanese woman has been arrested for abandoning her baby after giving birth at home. Sabita Dookram of Queens, New York, allegedly threw her baby through the window with the umbilical cord still attached on Sunday, October 11, 2020. 

Neighbours were alarmed after hearing a baby-crying from an alleyway of a house in Ozone Park around around 10 a.m. The baby was then rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. According to police, the newborn remains in critical condition. 

Dookram was arrested and charged with attempted murder, attempted manslaughter, assault, reckless endangerment, tampering with physical evidence, and endangering a child. 

According to New York police, Sabita Dookram underwent a psychological evaluation at a hospital.
