No Talks Until APNU+AFC Recognizes The Government As “LEGITIMATE”

Today the current administration, PPP regime, clarified that there will be no talks with the APNU+AFC until the party accepts their legitimacy or duly elected party to the office. 

“Unless the APNU+AFC leadership recognizes his Government as legitimate, there will be no talks,” said President Ali. 

Ali is calling the leader of the APNU+AFC to do the right thing and accept him as the legitimate president, something the opposition party denied after the March 2nd, 2020 elections. 

“The fact of the matter is that we have a legitimately elected Government and the Opposition Leader needs to get on board and do what’s right morally, ethically,” President Ali said. 

Ali was sworn in August by the Guyana Elections Commissions (GECOM). However, the opposition claimed that the swearing-in did not reflect the will of the people. 

“I cannot hold talks with someone who believes that I am illegitimate. I have been speaking about issues regarding our country with the population. I have a duty to speak to the population, and that is what I am going to do,” said Ali

These statements were made at the swearing-in of the Regional Representatives at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre. The legitimacy of the president has blocked talks between the two parties for over three months now.
