Two students top this year’s National Grade Six Assessment. Samuel Barkoye, North Georgetown Primary, and Rovin Lall, Stella Maris Primary, complete this year’s NGSA examination with five hundred and twenty-five marks each, respectively. The National Grade Six Assessment was held on July 1st and 2nd, 2020. A total of 14,032 students wrote the exams.
Among the top students is Alexander Singh with 524 marks from Marian Academy, Lianna Dharampaul, 523, Mon Repos Primary, Brandon Ramdin, 523, Westfield Prep, Britney Peters, 521, One Mile Primary, and Gabriel Felix, 521 marks from the New Guyana School.
After receiving the results, Samuel Barkoye said that he was elated and was aware that it was quite competitive. He is “ecstatic” because he came first out of 14,032 students who wrote the exams this year.
“I was elated, and there is great competition, and I know that many children would excel throughout their school life. I am just happy I was able to achieve the school of my dreams and able to join my sisters at Queens College.”
The COVID-19 pandemic did not prevent the students from preparing for the exams.
According to the Chief Education Officer, Marcel Hutson, he has seen tremendous improvements in English, Social Studies, and Science. There was a decline in the performance of Mathematics, he concluded.
Priya Manichand, the new Minister of Education, congratulated the students on their achievements even though it was challenging for them due to pandemic.
Barkoye would like to encourage future students to “ensure to study because studying is very vital” for success.
The GuyanaPress team congratulates all the students on their performance at this year’s NGSA examination.
