Bharrat Jagdeo Loses Big To APNU Member Annette Ferguson, Ordered To Pay $20M Or Go To Jail

Bharrat Jagdeo Ordered To Pay $20 Million

The High Court has ordered Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo to pay former Housing Minister Annette Ferguson GYD$20 million for defaming her during the A Partnership for National Unity+Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC) administration.

In her ruling, High Court Judge Sandra Kurtzious stated that if the defendant does not comply with the Court’s decision, he will be held in violation of the Court’s orders and face jail time or asset confiscation.

Mr. Jagdeo, who was the Opposition Leader in 2020, publicly stated that the former housing minister had amassed significant wealth in only two years as housing minister.

According to Justice Sandra Kurtzious, failure to honour the judgement will result in Mr. Jagdeo being held in contempt, being sentenced to prison, and having his assets confiscated to pay the debt.
