Canadian-Guyanese Protesters chants “justice for Isaiah and Joel Henry” at Toronto Rally against the heinous acts of Murder & Brutality against Blacks in Guyana

The Guyana National Democratic Council yesterday held a peaceful demonstration titled ‘Equality and Justice’ at the Toronto City Hall, Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto, Canada.

This demonstration came about after the recent brutal murder of two teenage boys in Region 5, Berbice Guyana. According to reports, the bodies of Joel and Isaiah were found on Sunday, 6th September 2020, at Cotton Tree Backdam, West Berbice after they were reported missing on Saturday 5, 2020.

Event Coordinator of the National Democratic Council in Toronto and organizer, Ingrid King, said “We wanted to create awareness of the heinous act and the murder of the two Afro-Guyanese teenagers in Guyana.”  The NDC group in Toronto is calling for justice for the victims. They are also calling on the Canadian government to intervene and be a part of the investigation.

Over 100 Canadian Guyanese who wanted to see justice attended the event with placards supporting justice for the Henry boys. The council also said that the Canadian High Commissioner to Guyana, Lilian Chattergee, has remained silent on the issue.

This crime is a war on Afro-Guyanese, and the perpetrators s be brought to justice. These killings came about after a series of hate speech on social media over the last six months during the Guyana elections.

The post mortem reveals that Isaiah and Joel Henry died from receiving multiple chops to the body. The photographs and videos will be sent overseas for further investigation. Seven persons have been arrested so far, with four of them released on station bail.

The investigation continues.

The Guyana National Democratic Council (Toronto) is a group of Guyanese Canadians who support democracy, with particular interest in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
