Chinese Embassy In Guyana Slammed Pompeo For Spreading Rumours and Fake News
Today, the Chinese Embassy to Guyana called on the US Secretary of State to stop spreading rumours and fake news. The statement dated September 18, 2020, on the Guyana Chinese Embassy website sends a severe warning to Pompeo.
The US diplomat criticized Chinese companies and encouraged the two small South American countries to consider doing business with China during his trip to Guyana and Suriname.
“We advise Mr. Pompeo to stop spreading rumours and fake news everywhere to confuse people. Otherwise, he will end up humiliating himself and damage his own image.”
On Thursday, during the visit to Suriname Mike Pompeo, Chinese companies habitually do not compete on a “fair and equitable basis.”
“We have watched the Chinese Communist party invest in other countries. At first, it seems that everything is fine, but then everything collapses when the political consequences become obvious,” Pompeo said
The statement accuses Pompeo of making “erroneous remarks” again during his visit to Guyana.
“The US Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo made some erroneous remarks on China during his visit to Guyana, to which we strongly oppose.”
In the statement, the spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Guyana outlined the relations between Guyana and the Caribbean and wants to ensure Guyana’s people that the relationship is based on the principles of “mutual respect and mutually beneficial win-win cooperation.”
“China develops relations with Caribbean countries, including Guyana under the principles of mutual respect, equality, and mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation.”
The statement clarifies that “China attaches no political strings in bilateral pragmatic cooperation which bring tangible benefits to countries and peoples in the region.”
