Corruption On The Rise Since Ali/Jagdeo Took Office According To Transparency International (TI) Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) Report 2021

Transparency International (TI) Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) Report 2021 Guyana

The latest Transparency International (TI) Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) Report 2021, issued today – the first full year of the PPP/new C’s term in government – saw Guyana drop two points to a score of 39 and a rating of 87 out of 180 nations.

According to the latest research, the fight against corruption is waning, with 86% of nations making little or no progress in the recent decade. It was said that nations in Western Europe and the European Union, who are at the top of the CPI, continue to struggle with openness and accountability in their reaction to COVID-19, jeopardising the region’s clean image. Increased limits on accountability measures and fundamental civil liberties in sections of Asia Pacific, the Americas, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia allow corruption to flourish. Even nations that have previously performed well are exhibiting symptoms of deterioration.

A country’s score, according to the study, is the perceived amount of public sector corruption on a scale of 0-100, with 0 indicating severely corrupt and 100 indicating very clean.
