Dozens of Young Black Guyanese Men Ordered to Be Arrested By Irfaan Ali To Please Mon Repos Villagers
This morning, sixteen black men showed up before the Cove and John Magistrates’ Court facing charges of alleged participating in riotous behaviour. In what appears to be racially motivated arrests by Irfaan Ali and the PPP/C government to appease it predominately Indian village of Mon Repos.
Among those accused were two 18-year-olds. The accusations were connected to yesterday’s protest activity on Demerara’s East Coast, which saw highways stopped and some demonstration participants plunder market booths in Mon Repos.
In what appears to be a swift response by the government despite the protests originating from slow lack of justice for the death of Afro-Guyanese Quindon Bacchus.
Those arrested were;
- Rondolph Murphy, 50-year-old male of Belfield Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara.
- Jawonza Fowler, 18-year-old male of Hackett Street, Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara.
- Michael Moore, 23-year-old male of Victoria, East Coast Demerara.
- Rawl Griffith, 45-year-old male of Haslington, East Coast Demerara.
- George Teixy, 31-year-old male of Haslington, East Coast Demerara.
- Daniel Thomas, 19-year-old male of Haslington, East Coast Demerara.
- Legendi Pompey, 33-year-old male of Haslington, East Coast Demerara.
- Seon Austin, 31-year-old male of Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara.
- Quice Lawrence, 40-year-old male of Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara.
- Winston James, 23-year-old male of Victoria, East Coast Demerara.
- Andrew Sumner, 59-year-old male of Victoria, East Coast Demerara.
- Shentel Caesar, 25-year-old of Melanie, ECD.
- Rondel Clarke, 21-year-old male of Ann’s Grove, ECD
- Shamar Payne, 23-year-old male of Bachelor’s Adventure, ECD
