First Guyanese Nurse Dies of Coronavirus Amid Frontline Workers Protest For Help and PPE

Amid cries for better risk allowances along with the lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from the frontline workers of Guyana during this COVID-19 pandemic, a 55-year-old nurse, Mark King died this morning at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) from complications related to Coronavirus.

Mark King was diagnosed with COVID-19 and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the (GPHC) on September 25, 2020, a source told the Guyanapress.

Health care workers are currently on the front lines in the fight against COVID-19, and the nurses have been hoping that the relevant authorities investigate the concerns displayed on the placards in regards to protections from the virus immediately.

Guyana is no stranger to the pandemic, and the issues concerning COVID-19 are similar to healthcare concerns being raised by nurses globally. We have seen health professionals around the world protest the need for better protections. They mirror many of the same complaints that exist in the United States, and will likely continue to grow in Guyana.
