Former Director of Sports Sues The State
Christopher Jones, the former Director of Sports, sues the state for over $300,000 in damages after police invaded his home and seized items valued at $4.9M.
Jones, a current Member of Parliament (MP) under the A Partnership for Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC), sued the state for his home’s unlawful search, seizure of property, and illegal arrest. Anil Nandlall denied such allegations and asked the high court to dismiss the lawsuit and says it is “frivolous and vexatious.”
Jones indicated that police breached the restraining order and enters his premises at 609 Conciliation Drive. Tucville, Georgetown without a warrant. The lawsuit was file against the acting Commissioner of Police, Nigel Hoppie, Crime Chief Police, Wendell Blanhum, Inspector Rodwell Sarrabo, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Chibanauth Singh, Corporal Singh, and the Attorney General, Anil Nandlall.
On August 20, 2020, Jones was arrested because he has assets belonging to the government, allegedly. Christopher Jones claims that the items were acquired under the Ministry of Social Protections Sustainable Livelihood and Entrepreneurial Development Program (SLED).
