Guyana’s PPP Government Continues Campaign Against Black Businesses, Move To Take Care Care’s Property

Guyana's Racist Government Goes After Another Black Business

The government has brought a legal case to have lands sold to Wilfred Brandford of Car Care Enterprise repossessed, and former Lands and Surveys Commissioner Trevor Benn and former Ministry of Finance Valuator Julian Barrington have also been sued for their involvement in the sale for more than $100 million each.

The land was sold for GYD$13.5 million after a second valuation, despite the fact that the first valuation placed it at GYD$60.8 million. According to the Attorney General, the State claims the property is worth GYD$150 million based on the valuation of land in the region.

“The cumulative effect of the actions of the Defendants was to harm the national patrimony of Guyana and to cause severe financial loss to the people and Government of Guyana,” said Attorney General Anil Nandlall

Mr. Benn was never legally authorised by the President to sell property, according to the Attorney General, since that role was never assigned to him by the Delegation of Functions Order 9 of 2016, dated June 9, 2016.
