Frontline workers in Guyana began receiving their first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine today at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC). The first two employees to be vaccinated are Dr. Mahendra Carpen who is the head of the pandemic prevention for COVID-19 and Pharmacist Brinnet Bernarai.
“It’s the least that I can do to do my part in protecting myself and in doing so I will protect those around me,” – Dr. Mahendra Carpen, Cardiologist
Health Minister overlooked the procedure but was not a part of the team being vaccinated.
Dr. Frank Anthony stated that “By the end of the month, going into March, our hope is that every single health worker would be able to get vaccinated so that we would by then have enough doses of vaccines to be able to provide to every single health worker whether you are in the public sector or the private sector,”
