No Special Investigation Into CXC Results…CXC Registrar

Educational experts across the region have called on the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) to conduct a thorough review of the CXC and CAPE results after many outcries from parents, teachers, and students.

According to a report from Barbados, the Registrar for the Council, Wayne Wesley, responded by emphasizing that this ‘will not happen’.

To date, and was previously reported, over 16,000 students and parents signed an online petition demanding a thorough review of the results indicating that the ‘marks were made,’ and the results were not adding up. Many students argued that the results do not reflect their exam performances and requested a complete and thorough review.

According to a statement from the Minister of Education in Barbados and many others from the region, they are not pleased with the situation and call on the Examination Council to conduct an urgent investigation into the matter to ‘preserve the region’s integrity.’

“The disquiet among students who recently received the Caribbean Examinations Council’s CAPE and CSEC examinations is definitely cause for concern. I am of the view that an urgent investigation must be carried out by CXC into this matter to preserve the integrity of the examinations,” Bradshaw said.”

The Council responded by saying that the established review is already in place, and the deadline for submitting the request is on Friday, September 25, 2020.

“Candidates who have questions about an absent or ungraded result can submit a query. If there is a question about a grade and the candidate wishes to have a script re-examined, they may submit a request for a review. Further details can be found at http://bit.ly/cxc-queries,” the CXC stated.

“And while there must be respect for process, I do feel however that given the unprecedented number of students who have raised concerns, particularly those online, I would strongly urge CXC to move swiftly to investigate and also to consider the waiver of fees associated with the review,” said the Barbados Minister of Education.”

According to reports, the CXC Registrar, Wayne Wesley, “has made it clear that there will be no special investigation into the results explaining that the results are accurate and the process above board.”

He reiterated that the Council review fees remain the same.
