PPP/C Holds ‘Superspreader’ Coronavirus Event
President of Guyana, Dr. Irfaan Ali, delivered a feature address at a location that turned into a super spreader COVID-19 event under the theme “Dream Realized Housing Driving 2020” on October 16, 2020, at the Providence National Stadium.
Photos from the occasion spread quickly on social media and became a cause for alarm over the high turn out of citizens who attended. Seen present at the event was the Minister of Housing and Water, Mr. Collin Croal, and the Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Ms. Susan Rodrigues, along with the Central Housing and Planning Authority’s CEO, Mr. Sherwyn Greaves.
The housing situation continues to be a consistent problem in Guyana. No doubt people are very concerned about their living arrangements and ultimately used this opportunity to benefit from the event, but could this be considered the right thing to do when the number of COVID-19 cases continue to rise every day. According to recent CNN reports, the amount of Coronavirus infections reached eight million cases in the United States.
According to the WHO report, the world now has 38,789,204 thousand confirmed cases and 1,095,097 deaths, which almost doubles the size of Guyana’s population. Guyana’s neighboring country Brazil has seen 5,140,863 confirmed cases and 151 747 deaths. These numbers should not be taken lightly since Guyana’s population is a little over half a million people.
This event will facilitate the distribution of titles and deliver answers to many questions from citizens.
