Teens Murder Probe By RSS …” Additional Work To Be Done By Police”
According to a statement from the Department of Public Information on October 26, 2020, the CARICOM Regional Security System (RSS) were tasked with investigating the two Henry Cousins and Haresh Singh, who were brutally murdered, and made a few recommendations to the police department.
At the Regional Representatives’ swearing at the Arthur Chung Convention Centre, President Ali made the statement related to the matter.
“As part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the RSS report should be submitted to the Guyana Police Force. They were satisfied with the work that the local police have been doing,” President Ali said.
The team visited Guyana to assist with the murders that spurred on widespread protests and condemnation from citizens locally and abroad. The RSS was subsequently able to visit the crime scene and interview family members to assist with their investigation.
As previously reported, the police force conducted a local investigation and found nothing-evidential leading to the teens’ death. In response, the lack of action for the murders later led to rioting and protesting in the Berbice area, pressuring Guyana’s government to seek international help in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
