Trinidad Prime Minister slams Trump Administration and OAS for latest “refugee” wave
According to a statement from the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Keith Rowley, the OAS is partly responsible for “for triggering and fuelling the current Venezuelan situation.” Dr. Rowley noted that the officials had declared war with Trinidad and Tobago for not joining the Trump administration efforts against Venezuela’s involuntary regime change.
“The OAS under its misguided President Almagro has been almost singlehandedly responsible for triggering and fueling the current Venezuelan situation and these public officials have virtually declared war on Trinidad and Tobago for having the temerity to have not joined Eliot Abrams and President Trump in forcing violent regime change in Venezuela,” said Dr. Keith Rowley.
These comments came after 16 Venezuelan nationals, including children, returned to Trinidad and Tobago after deporting last weekend. In a post from the Prime Minister’s official Facebook page, Dr. Keith Rowley sends a strong message that the matter is not for the OAS but Trinidad and Tobago’s people.
“This is a matter, not for the OAS but for the people of Trinidad and Tobago,” said Dr. Keith Rowley.
The Prime Minister indicated that the border is currently closed to all nationals because of the pandemic. He insisted that he would restraint any international community’s efforts encouraging illegal immigration on the Twin Island. The Island currently has 16000 registered Venezuelan migrants while struggling to deal with their domestic issues.
The PM called on Trinidad and Tobago’s people to remain “humane” and “to care for people” as they continue to protect Trinidad and Tobago by following the laws.
The Island has a population of 1.3 million people.
