U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, Trip to Paramaribo, Georgetown, Boa Vista, Bogota, and Plato.

According to a press release dated September 15, 2020, from the Department of Spokesperson, Morgan Ortegus indicated that Pompeo would travel to Paramaribo, Georgetown, Boa Vista, Bogota, and Plato from September 17-20, 2020. 

The U.S. Secretary of State trip will underscore the “United States commitment to defend democracy, combat COVID-19 while revitalizing our economies in the pandemic’s wake, and strengthen security against regional threats.”

AGENDA

SURINAME – Meeting with the President to discuss bilateral cooperation and opportunities for partnership in energy and security.

GEORGETOWN – Congratulate President Irfan Ali and his cabinet. He is meeting with CARICOM Secretary-General Irwin LaRockque. Reinforce transparent private sector investment to increase prosperity for Guyana’s people concerning the wake of COVID-19.

BOA VISTA, BRAZIL – Plans to reinstate the importance of Brazilian and U.S. for the people of Venezuela by visiting those fleeing Venezuela manmade disaster. 

BOGOTA – Meeting with the Columbian President Ivan Duque to discuss strong partnership for country share, managing COVID-19, tackling threats and regional security from narcotraffickers, terror groups, and Maduro illegitimate regime. 

Finally, Michael Pompeo will return to the United States. 

The United States continues to remain the country with the highest infected rate of COVID-19 cases and deaths globally.
