Venezuelan Opens Fire On Guyanese Police And Soldiers At Guyana/Venezuela Border
According to a letter today sent from the Guyana Defence Force, members of a Venezuelan Sindicato gang opened fire on a joint patrol of Guyanese police and soldiers on the Cuyuni River (Guyana/Venezuela) on Wednesday September 23, 2020.
The army confirmed that no one was injured during this attack after the joint services retaliated by returning fire. The letter stated that the local police and soldiers were on a “routine” patrol when they came under fire from the Venezuelan Sindicato gang at the border.
The letter indicated that the force has since intensified their operations around the Venezuelan border.
“Aggressive joint patrols by the security forces have since been intensified in the Cuyuni area,”
Citizens are puzzled by the attack and are afraid that the attacked might be as a result President Irfaan Ali statement during the US Secretary of State visit.
“We support the need for free and fair elections in our hemisphere,” Ali said. “With urgency, we believe that democratic values and principles should be respected in Venezuela as well.”
