The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) Says Oil Bill (NRF) Is “Rushed” and “Lack Accountability”

The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI)

The Natural Resources Fund (NRF) Bill, according to the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), is a critical tool in Guyana’s development, both for present and future generations. As a result, since the Bill’s public release on December 15, 2021, the GCCI has been closely following developments and thoroughly studying the Bill.

The Chamber of Commerce recognises the necessity for the Natural Resources Fund to be revised, as stated by Irfaan Ali on December 28, 2021, and encourages the government to promote public accountability and transparency in the Fund’s management and functioning.

Furthermore, the GCCI believes that, given the importance of this Bill and its potential use as a mechanism for intergenerational wealth transfer among Guyana’s inhabitants, additional time should be given to the public for input and general opinion on the Bill. The Chamber desires to reiterate its commitment to national development as a partner and anticipates further initiatives to assist Guyanese inclusive growth.
